Matthew Barrett is newly appointed Assistant Professor of Christian Ministries at California Baptist University – Online & Professional Studies


Matthew Barrett, Ph.D. has been named Assistant Professor of Christian Ministries at California Baptist University – Online & Professional Studies, effective June 2012.

Dr. Barrett earned his B.A. in Communications from Biola University in 2005, his M.Div. in Christian Studies from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008, and his Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2011. He has experience teaching at Mid-Continent University as well as at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, both located in Kentucky.

His dissertation, currently in the process of being published, is called Reclaiming Monergism: The Case for Sovereign Grace in Effectual Calling and Regeneration. Dr. Barrett has also co-authored or co-edited several other works that deal with issues such as salvation and God’s grace, establishing him as a good source of knowledge and information on biblical and theological issues. He will be teaching several different classes at CBU including Christian Doctrine, Church History, Baptist History, Biblical Studies Courses (e.g. Overview of the Bible, Paul and the Early Church), Philosophy, and Comparative Religions.

Dr. Barrett is also the executive editor of Credo Magazine, a digital magazine that is published bi-monthly and includes content that focuses on teaching “what accords with sound doctrine” (Titus 2:1). He and his wife have two daughters and they reside in Southern California.
