Designed for Working Professionals

The accounting courses give individuals the opportunity to take accelerated college courses online and graduate in as little as 24 months. With classes offered in three different formats - online, hybrid, or in-person - students are given the opportunity to complete their coursework around their own schedule.

The Value of the CBU Degree

The BSA is designed to take students through a journey that embraces personal, professional, and spiritual transformation. Students graduating from the BSA program will be equipped to ethically address complex accounting issues in a dynamic business environment. In addition, students will leave the program with the capacity to self-reflect, think critically, lead and engage others, and make effective decisions.

Online and Professional Studies is designed to respond to the needs of the "new normal" generation of students - the non-traditional student that balances professional and family responsibilities while advancing their education. With individual advisors who assist students throughout their time completing the accounting degree-completion program, students are able to focus on what is important and avoid any confusion.

Professors with Real-World Experience

Those who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting online at CBU will learn accounting from faculty who have real-world experience in professional accounting. CBU's degree in accounting is taught by professors who have knowledge in the world of accounting that goes beyond what is taught in school. Mentors as well as instructors, BSA professors work closely with students from the first day of class through graduation. Expect your professors to challenge you, inspire you, and, most importantly, support your success.

A Career Path In Demand

Research conducted by National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) suggests that accounting professionals are not only in demand but the demand for them is strong and growing in an economy with a high unemployment rate.

A survey conducted for the NACE 2012 Job Outlook found significant growth potential in the accounting profession:

  • Accounting is the second most in-demand degree from employers
  • 59.3% of companies will hire graduates with accounting degrees in 2012
  • 71.4% of the employers who are planning to hire a person with a business-related degree in 2012 said they are specifically planning on hiring someone with an Accounting degree
  • The one-year growth in accounting position hires from 2011 to 2012 is expected to be 8.5%

Independently, the BLS Job Outlook also reported the significant and growing opportunities available in the accounting profession:

  • Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow by 22% between 2008 and 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations
  • Job growth will be driven by
    • An increase in the number of businesses
    • The change to financial laws and corporate governance regulations
    • An increase in corporate accountability for protecting an organization's stakeholders

Successfully Prepared for the CPA and CMA Exams

Upon completion of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, many individuals will go on to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams to become a licensed professional. CBU's online bachelor's degree in accounting allows students to gain the knowledge necessary to successfully complete these exams.

The purpose of the BSA is to prepare students for careers in the accounting profession including public accounting, corporate accounting, managerial accounting, and government and not-for-profit accounting.   The curriculum is specifically designed to prepare students for the CPA exam and the numerous career paths available in the accounting field.

The Classroom Experience

Students enrolled in the online B.S. in Accounting program at CBU will discover that their courses are unlike that of any other program delivered online. With the use of new technologies in distance learning, students are able to learn in a more interactive environment where getting their degree online isn't just reading a syllabus and completing coursework.

With small, interactive classes, BSA students receive individual attention from dedicated instructors while also learning from the diverse experiences and perspectives of fellow peers. This intimate environment encourages students to develop interpersonal and team-building skills, while also developing networks and supportive relationships. Emphasizing experiential learning through practical application of theory, BSA coursework incorporates hands-on assignments based on real-world scenarios.
