Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Overview

The career value of understanding human behavior

The purpose of the online Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree program is to equip graduates for employment in human and social service careers, and for graduate study in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology. Students emerge from the online bachelor’s degree in psychology equipped with important skills including the ability to assess client needs, keep thorough and accurate records, and express care and empathy in order to act as an advocate for clients. Students will learn basic behavioral science principles, general psychology principles, and the theories of different areas of psychology, as well as critical thinking skills and their practical applications. Courses work emphasizes Abnormal Psychology, Counseling Psychology and Theories of Personality, providing students the ability to explore many areas of psychology.

Entry-level careers exist within the social services arena, all of which require a psychology degree. These careers include rehabilitation specialist, psychiatric technician, career counselor, and case manager positions. The strong communication skills and understanding of human behavior will set you up for success for the following positions: marketing representative, sales director, personnel and training, executive assistant and legal assistant. If you are motivated to study and learn about people, driven to help others and to make lives better, and ready for a career that is both financially and personally rewarding, a bachelor’s degree in psychology is a good choice. Perhaps you’d like to become a social worker, school psychologist, college psychology instructor, school counselor, or parole officer? These are all examples of careers that require an advanced degree in psychology and students have the opportunity to apply to CBU Online’s Master of Science in Counseling Psychology program, upon graduation from the Bachelor’s degree program.

The online Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree program is designed to take students through a journey that embraces personal, professional, and spiritual transformation. Students graduating from the program will be equipped to address issues in a global context, with the ethical standards of a Christian heritage. In addition, students will leave the program with the capacity to self-reflect, think critically, engage others, and make effective decisions.

Consistent with the University student outcomes, upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree, graduates will be able to:

  1. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing and demonstrate proficiency in the use of information technology.
  2. Integrate the Christian faith with basic principles of the contemporary behavioral sciences.
  3. Demonstrate competency using statistical techniques within the behavioral sciences.
  4. Show competency using methods of research within the behavioral sciences.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the major schools of thought in psychology within an historical context.
  6. Display a comprehension of the principles of life-span development.
  7. Convey an understanding of the major theories of personality.
  8. Exhibit knowledge of the principles of psychological tests and measurements.
  9. Display a familiarity with the structure and functions of the mind.
  10. Demonstrate a comprehension of the fundamental tenets of abnormal psychology.
  11. Have knowledge of contemporary theories of therapeutic counseling.
  12. Exhibit a familiarity with the fundamental principles of psychophysiology.
  13. Evaluate how to collect, treat, and interpret data in research and testing.
