Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree program is designed to prepare professionals in the field to address emerging 21st-century challenges. The online degree program will provide students with the knowledge and skill set to compete in a progressive and competitive information security environment. The online Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree program prepares students for the following career paths: Security Engineer, Security Analyst, Information Security Analyst, Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, and Senior Systems Administrator. This program aligns with essential concepts and learning outcomes as identified by the Joint Task Force on Cybersecurity Education, and fulfills the academic requirements of the National Security Agency / Department of Homeland Security National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CD) program.

The fully online Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree program curriculum is designed to help students develop the information technology (IT) skills necessary to plan and carry out security measures to protect an organization’s computer networks and systems. Participants in the program will exemplify the highly sought-after leadership skills and tools employers are looking for in today’s growing IT field. Specific areas of study include security design, computer and operating system architecture, computer and network security, database security, defensive and offensive security, computer forensics, cybersecurity management, and network defense.

Along with incorporating the Christian world view throughout the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree program, CBU Online faculty members bring a diverse breadth of knowledge and experience to the classroom. Students are challenged to connect theory and practice in order to make successful and practical applications of course materials. The real-world experience CBU Online faculty members bring to the classroom is extremely important in the ever-changing IT industry, and empowers graduates to immediately and effectively apply highly relevant information in the field of cybersecurity.  

Consistent with the University student outcomes, upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate effectiveness presenting information orally and in writing, and demonstrate proficiency in the use of information technology.
  2. Apply various techniques, including mathematical and analytical algorithms, for the purpose of protecting data at rest, during processing, and in transit.
  3. Examine the process of developing and using software that preserves the security of information and systems.
  4. Analyze security aspects related to the design, fabrication, procurement, integration, testing, and analysis of computer components.
  5. Appraise the security of the connections between information system components, including physical and logical connections.
  6. Examine at a holistic level the security aspects of systems that are composed of components and connections, and use software.
  7. Evaluate the protection of individuals' data and privacy in the context of organizational and personal life, in addition to the study of human behavior as it relates to cybersecurity.
  8. Analyze the types of security laws, regulations, and standards governing the protection of organizations from cybersecurity threats and the management of risk to support the successful accomplishment of an organization's mission.
  9. Examine aspects of cybersecurity that impact the global society, including cybercrime, law, ethics, policy, privacy and their relation to each other.
  10. Possess the skills necessary to integrate faith and profession.

This is an introduction to the essential computer software tools used in the modern information society. Students will be introduced to software applications such as word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, and email. Project-based learning activities will provide hands-on experiences for students to practice and apply the skills to real-world situations. Business IT Application

This course will develop essential math and computer skills necessary to support the student's integration into the business program. Students will be introduced to the Microsoft Office suite application packages: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. In addition, they will reinforce essential math skills that support upper division requirements and integrate with computer software applications. Composition

This is a process-based writing class that focuses on academic writing, reading, and critical thinking as expressed in expository and analytical writing assignments through 5 to 7 substantial essays over the course of the semester. Develops fluency, coherence, style, effectiveness, and literary analysis. Students must pass this course with a C- or better to fulfill general competency requirements and to proceed to ENG 123. Prerequisite: ENG 103. Placement into this course is determined by ACT/SAT scores. Placement may be challenged by the Writing Placement Exam. (3 units)

Continued practice in writing with emphasis on critical thinking, argument, analysis and interpretation of multicultural readings and other interdisciplinary expository materials. Includes the writing of a major research paper (or report) in addition to several shorter essays requiring various types of documentation. Fieldwork required. This course requires LiveText.
