CBU students attend Casting Crowns acoustic live session

February 20, 2013 - Irvine, CA

Several CBU Online students had the opportunity to attend the Casting Crowns, acoustic session concert event at Mariners Church in Irvine, compliments of KFSH radio, 95.9FM.

Casting Crowns is a contemporary Christian and Christian rock band started in 1999 by youth pastor Mark Hall, who serves as the band's lead vocalist. During the acoustic set, Casting Crowns frontman Mark Hall shared the band's work and ministry at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, GA where most serve as youth pastors and play during the Worship service on Sunday mornings. Hall shared the band primarily tours from Thursday to Saturday so that they can be home for church on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. He said, "Our main purpose, above all else, is to know Him more. It's that unwavering desire and the intent of a personal friendship with Jesus.” Remembering that simple, but powerful, truth has served Hall and his bandmates (Megan Garrett, Melodee DeVevo, Hector Cervantes, Chris Huffman, Juan DeVevo and Brian Scoggin) well. Hall was strong in his conviction when he shared with the small audience, “They do the band part-time around their full-time work of mentoring teenagers at the church,” their first passion and calling.

Since its launch in 2003 the band has garnered 14 GMA Dove Awards, three GRAMMY Awards and an American Music Award. Casting Crowns has sold more than 8.2 million albums to date (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and has been namedBillboard magazine's top-selling Christian act for the past four years. The acoustic session at Mariners Church included favorites: Who Am I, Praise You in This Storm and East to West, and concluded with an opportunity for personal photos with the Christian group.
