CBU earns first-ever 10-year accreditation reaffirmation

March 07, 2011 - Riverside, CA

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) has awarded a 10-year accreditation reaffirmation to California Baptist University.  It is the first time in the more than 60-year history of CBU that the institution has received the maximum accreditation period granted by WASC.

The decision comes after a lengthy self-evaluation process that included preparation of a detailed report on educational effectiveness by the university and a campus visit by a WASC team September 29–October 1, 2010.

Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, CBU president, termed the ruling an “outstanding accomplishment” upon receiving notice of the action March 3 in a letter from the accrediting agency.

“It is gratifying to receive this strong affirmation from WASC,” Ellis said.  “This is one of the highest orders of external confirmation of the progress that has occurred at California Baptist University over the past 15-plus years.”

Ellis said the accrediting agency’s decision validates “the team of CBU trustees, faculty, staff, students and supporters whose efforts are putting into place more of the building blocks needed to achieve the vision of a premiere comprehensive Christian university committed to the Great Commission.”

In an email informing CBU employees about the WASC ruling, Ellis thanked “one and all for working diligently on this important accreditation process.”
