Cisco Systems Recognition of OPS Video Initiatives to Help Students Learn

May 11, 2011 - Riverside, CA

In May of 2011, Cisco Systems published a prominent case study entitled “Pervasive Video Extends University’s High-Touch Culture.”    Online & Professional Studies IT division was recognized for its visionary approach to leveraging video technologies to enhance learning and engagement between faculty and students in an online environment.

A few highlights:

  • Asynchronous online learning has been the dominant mode for distance education.
  • Though beneficial from a time and space construct, it lacked engagement and synchronicity, two features that seem to impact learning effectiveness.
  • This modality is called hybrid - teaching synchronously and asynchronously.
  • Cisco HQ & HD video technologies help to satisfy the engagement and synchronicity void.
  • These technologies have matured and are reliable.  All the tools needed by students and teachers are available from recording to web collaboration.
  • Higher Education can leverage these technologies academically and operationally.
  • Cisco Systems is a viable company that will continue to innovate and support its products.
  • Students taking CBU online courses will be using technologies that are utilized in the business environment.  Thus, the goal of preparing students for  "real world" jobs is realized.
  • Students will also recognize the value of technologies used at CBU and hopefully, use the same technologies in their work environment.
