Matthew Y. Emerson is newly appointed Assistant Professor of Christian Studies at California Baptist University – Online & Professional Studies

Matthew Y. Emerson has been named Assistant Professor of Christian Studies at California Baptist University – Online and Professional Studies, effective August 18, 2011.

Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Dr. Emerson was formerly an adjunct professor of Christian Studies at Grand Canyon University and on staff at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. His doctoral research addressed the literary and theological significance of the canonical shape of the New Testament. Dr. Emerson will play a central role in the planning and building of the University's online offerings in Christian Studies.

Dr. Emerson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Auburn University, in Auburn, Alabama; a Master of Divinity degree, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Theology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina. He and his wife have two daughters and recently relocated to the greater Riverside area.

California Baptist University Online & Professional Studies offers a B.A. in Christian Studies degree-completion program. CBU’s B.A. in Christian Studies provides students with the foundational building blocks to better understand biblical-based theology and its’ positive life-changing impact on people. Students emerge from the program with a deeper general knowledge of the Bible, as well as skill in using interpretive tools to illuminate biblical texts for themselves. The program is designed for the working adult considering advanced seminary studies or a career in ministry, and provides a strong biblical and theological foundation for reaching professional and spiritual goals.
